Abstract
Hypobaric oxygenation, glucose, corticoids, hypothermia These are agents and techniques found influential in the “metabolic struggle” that foreshadows death from infection. Dr. Smith believes it may be time to explore the application of some of these experimental findings to clinical situations. And he suggests that such exploration could be made through a cooperative trial in which a number of hospitals test the various modalities in their intensive care units.
