Abstract
Phenyllithium and pyridine-3-N,N -diethylsulphonamide gave the expected 2-phenyl derivative exclusively. Contrary to a previous report some 2,3-diphenylpyridine is formed with 3-phenylpyridine. No pyridyne intermediate seems to be formed in the reaction of phenyllithium with 3-bromopyridine. The reactions of phenyllithium with quinoline and with N-benzylpyridinium chloride have also been studied and are discussed. Keywords
