Inhibition of a Strain of Brucella abortus by Medium Filtered through Cotton

Abstract
Filtration of an improved tryptose agar through 15 commercial brands of absorbent cotton resulted in media which failed to support the growth of a strain of B. abortus. The inhibition of growth was found to be caused by fatty-acid-like substances extracted from the cotton. The inhibition could be neutralized by addition of starch to the medium.
