Abstract
Cross sections sigma 11* for the formation of He+ (2S) metastable ions by excitation of 10-40 keV He+ ions in passage through He, Ar, Kr, H2, N2 and O2 have been determined. These cross sections are strongly energy dependent but are at least two orders of magnitude smaller than corresponding cross sections sigma 21* for He+ (2S) formation in electron capture by He2+ ions. Keywords
