Abstract
〈110〉 samples of MgO.1·8 Al2O3 spinel have been compressed in the temperature range 1410–1630°C. As the test temperature increased, we observed an evolution of macroscopic glide planes which moved approximately from {551} to {221) planes. This is the result of extensive cross slip from {110} to {111} planes occurring during the yield. An explanation taking the dislocation core structure into account is given. Keywords
