Effect of concentration on bactericidal activity of cefotaxime

Abstract
The effect of concentration on bactericidal activity of cefotaxime against Ercherichia coli, Kiebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus species and Staphylococcus aureus was evaluated via membrane filtration technique. Although cefotaxime is a cephalosporin derivative, its bactericidal activity was similar to that of penicillin: higher concentrations either do not lead to higher kill-rate (against Gram-negative rods) or there was a decrease in kill-rate (against S. aureus).
