Baseline Rail-Running Performance in the Squirrel Monkey

Abstract
An avoidance rail-running test for squirrel monkeys was described. It permitted measurement of baseline motor performance for study of balance. The effect of several amounts of pretraining on baseline level was investigated, and no differences in baseline level were found. Factors including avoidance acquisition and initial rail-running ability were normally distributed. The stability of rail-running performance was adequate for use as a baseline measure.
