Abstract
Ethylene was determined by gas chromatography after reaction of radiolytically produced .OH and .**GRAPHIC**. radicals with methionine, methionine + pyridoxal phosphate and S-adenosyl-methionine (SAM). Both oxygen radicals, alone or in combination, liberate ethylene from methionine and methionine/pyridoxal phosphate. From SAM ethylene was primarily produced by the combined attack of .OH and H2O2 or .**GRAPHIC**. [The biosynthetic pathway for the generation of the plant hormone ethylene has not yet been elucidated to the last detail, but is derived from the carbon atoms C3 and C4 of the amino acid methionine.].This publication has 23 references indexed in Scilit:
