Abstract
Blood samples were collected at 28-day intervals over a period of 10 months from March through December from six Hereford and six Brahman cattle, three of each breed and sex. The blood serum was analyzed for level of circulating thyroid hormones by Sephadex column chromatography employing 131I-labelled T3. Significant differences were found for breed and sex effects. The Herefords had a significantly higher percent uptake than Brahmans, indicating that the Herefords had a lower level of circulating thyroid hormones. The heifers had a significantly lower percent uptake than the bulls, indicating that heifers had a higher level of circulating thyroid hormones. Copyright © 1971. American Society of Animal Science .
