Abstract
Starting with impure commercial samples of the dye, methods for the preparation of pure trypan blue and each of its chief contaminants are presented. The teratogenic component of the commercial mixture is shown to be the blue fraction, which is presumably trypan blue itself. The impurities are not active teratogens and do not modify qualitatively the teratogenic activity of the blue fraction. Keywords
