Abstract
Summary: The limits of the maximum of the Würm Glaciation in Great Britain and its subsequent readvance stages are described in the light of present stratigraphical, geochronological and palynological knowledge. These are compared with the succession of Würm moraines on the continent of Europe and a correlation is discussed. It is suggested that, in view of the proved synchronism of the main events of the Würm Glaciation in Europe and North America, it is possible that the “Newer Drift Maximum” in Britain belongs to the Main Würm and not to the Early Würm as has been suggested, and that the older view that the “Newer Drift Maximum” was post-Aurignacian may be correct. This publication has 52 references indexed in Scilit:
