SOCIAL INTERACTIONS IN A GROUP OF CAPTIVE PATAS MONKEYS (ERYTHROCEBUS PATAS)

Abstract
The adult male [patas monkey] remained aloof from most group interactions. One female seemed to act as "leader" over her female companions; her relations with them resembled the relations between them and the adult male. The onset of puberty in a young male was followed by a series of unprecedented attacks on him by the adult male. "Aunt" behavior was shown by an adult female towards a neonate born in the group. The interactions recorded in the captive group corresponded closely with those observed in wild groups.
