Abstract
A study is made of the expected properties of the cross section for scattering -mesons by deuterons on the basis of the impulse approximation. The cross section for high energy mesons can then be expressed in a simple manner in terms of the cross sections for meson scattering by free protons and neutrons. This provides a means of deducing the latter when the deuteron and proton cross sections are known.
