Abstract
Cf. p.225-226. The time taken to cure 20 cases (as a group) of scabies by each of 5 different treatments was as follows: Sulfur ointment 46 days; sulfur ointment and confection of sulfur 59 days; benzyl benzoate 30 days; rotenone 38 days; derris root 41 days; that is, individuals were cured in 11/2-3 days. The derris root method is the most satisfactory. It is very cheap, clean and effective. Benzyl benzoate is the quickest but it may occasionally cause dermatitis, is fairly expensive and often difficult to procure. Rotenone is very expensive and caused dermatitis in 3 of the 20. Sulfur ointment is cheap and efficient but a very messy, annoying method. Giving confectio sulfuris (1 dram daily) causes diarrhoea in some cases. Cf.
