Abstract
The biliary complications of pancreatitis indicated by jaundice were investigated by endoscopic retrograde pancreatography. Radiological aspects of the bile ducts show a long type I stenosis of the main bile duct. The frequency of type I or type III stenosis in chronic pancreatitis [CP] makes oral cholecystography a useful diagnostic tool. Cholestasis in CP leads to an association of the disease with jaundice. The association of cholangitis with CP is more frequent after surgery. Hepatic lesions in CP are rarely described but not unknown. Reports from surgical or autopsy investigations are variable concerning the association and relationship of gallstones to CP. Treatment of cholestasis in CP depends on the severity of biliary obstruction. Several anastomoses of bile ducts are employed, while pancreajejunostomy and avoidance of alcohol are successful in cases of mild obstruction.
