Abstract
The contents of sterol derivatives (sterols + esters, glycosides and acylated glycosides) have been determined using thin layer chromatography in leaves and bulky and organs from carrots (Daucus carota L.) potato (Solanum tuberosum L.), onion (Allium cepa L.) two varieties of radish (Raphanus sativus L.) and Gentiana purpurea L. plants. Ether-soluble lipids of leaves contain 2.8–5.2%, those of storage tissue 3.1–8.9% sterol derivatives. The fractionation of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L., Burpee's Ruby Red) leaf homogenates indicates steryl glycosides to be accumulated in a microsomal fraction.
