Abstract
A comparison of arterial, cutaneous and venous blood sugar values, 1 hr. after the ingestion of 100 gm. glucose or after injection of 1 cc. of 1:1000 epinephrine, revealed that the sugar content of cutaneous blood is not a reliable measure of that of arterial blood in individual determinations. Measurement of blood sugar concentration in cutaneous and venous blood at regular intervals after ingestion of 100 gm. of glucose in 18 normal subjects showed a tendency toward a higher cutaneous venous difference in [female][female] than in [male][male]. It was observed also that in 7 of 13 hyperthyroid patients the cutaneous venous difference was lower than in normals while in 5 hypothyroid cases the cutaneous venous difference was higher.
