Determination of the Optimum Operating Conditions of the Electron Capture Detector

Abstract
The response of the electron capture detector with various parameters has been studied in order to determine the relationship between the peak height and the background current. To obtain the highest sensitivity, the optimum values of the polarizing voltage (d.c. method) or the pulse period (pulse method) where determined from these variations. The sensitivity of two detectors with different geometries and radioactive sources has been compared. The influence of some chromatographic conditions on the performance of the electron capture detector has been described.
