Abstract
We report on 2 patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) exacerbated by inhalant allergens: grass pollens in spring (AD as hay fever equivalent) and nonbiting red midges (chironomides) in pet fish food. These clinical observations confirm the existence of an ‘extrinsic’ IgE-mediated type of AD in a minority of patients in which the IgE sensitization against specific allergens plays a causal role for the skin disorder.
