Abstract
The threshold stored energy and transthoracic current for electrical defibrillation were determined in dogs anaesthetised with pentobarbitone. Groups were randomly allocated to pre-treatment with either saline or bretylium. The intravenous administration of bretylium tosylate (10 to 30 mg·kg−1) did not significantly alter either measurement. The drug caused large changes in heart rate and arterial blood pressure. Keywords
