Abstract
A study has been made of the formation of chromium atoms from several chromium compounds in air-acetylene flames. The results indicate that the major cause of differences in the atom formation behaviour of the compounds investigated is the nature of the solid phase formed on desolvation and its subsequent thermal decomposition. Factors such as pH and oxidation state are not important per se but because they affect the nature of the solid phase formed on desolvation. Keywords
