A Description of a Diaphragmatic Hernia in a Sixteen Week Baboon Fetus (Papio Sp.)

Abstract
Ninety-two baboon embryos and fetuses were acquired by cesarean section. Their gestation ages ranged from 5 weeks to near term. Only one (1.08%) major teratism occurred. It consisted of severe herniation of abdominal viscera through the diaphragm on the left side. The pleural, pericardial and peritoneal cavities were continuous on the left side, but separated on the right side. The cranial one-fourth of the liver, the stomach and most of the ileum protruded into the thorax. Several other organ anomalies are described.
