Febrile convulsions caused by meningitis in young children

Abstract
The records of 325 children with meningitis were examined retrospectively. Of the 43 children who presented with seizures, 15 lacked signs of meningeal irritation; of these, 4 had additional sources of infection and 3 had had a prior febrile seizure. Of the 15 patients without signs of meningeal irritation, 5 were over 2 years of age; in 8, the meningitis was bacterial. The seizures were usually brief and generalized.
