Abstract
Portable electronic spirometers, often with direct readout, are now replacing conventional water or bellows spirometers for office, clinic and bedside use. Despite wide acceptance, performance characteristics are poorly defined. Using mechanical models and human subjects, we evaluated four such Instruments with a water spirometer and a pneumotachograph. Keywords
