Abstract
The concept of the mobile coronary-care unit (MCCU) is currently receiving a great deal of attention.1 2 3 4 Pantridge, in Belfast, Ireland, first reported his experience in 1966.1 Approximately two years later, Grace, from St. Vincent's Hospital, organized a similar unit in New York City. At least three other projects funded by the Regional Medical Programs are in various stages of development. Each of these is patterned after the Pantridge model.The typical plan of operation is to have a specially equipped ambulance respond to emergency calls that satisfy prearranged criteria as being "cardiac cases."
