Abstract
We have prepared the titanium(IV) complex (πC5H5)2Ti(CF3SO3)2. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n with Z = 4 and lattice constants a = 16.137(6) Å, b = 12.851(5) Å, c = 8.299(4) Å, β = 91.97(5)°. An X-ray structure determination shows the complex to possess a covalent rather than an ionic structure despite the low basicity of the trifluoromethanesulfonate anion. The coordination of the titanium atom by the two π-C5H5 ligands and the two oxygen atoms of the CF3SO3 groups is approximately tetrahedral.
