Abstract
Anomalous resistivity and intense ion heating are observed in isothermal plasmas where ion sound is damped, concomitant with onset of resonant discrete and nonresonant continuous spectra of ion-cyclotron drift waves. These results are explained by a theory based on statistically averaged instability amplitudes and frequencies. Keywords
