Abstract
Obtained by interview, the diets of 1,103 [male] aircraft workers (Burbank, Cal.) 20-40 yrs. of age, were compared with National Research Council standards. Vegetables were most frequently inadequate, in 56% of the cases; citrus fruits next, 49%; followed by milk, 33% and eggs, 23%. Meats were inadequate in only 1% of the workers. The median fuel value was 2,675 calories per day and only 34% exceeded 3,000. Specific nutrients were less than two-thirds the recommended allowances in the following % of the total: protein, 0.8; Fe, 4.0; niacin, 7.2; thiamin, 14.0; vit. A, 14.8; Ca, 24.8; riboflavin, 43.2 and ascorbic acid, 46.0.
