Abstract
Continental levels and marine levels on the Spanish Levant coast. Continental levels do not always correspond with marine maximum levels, but also with levels inferior to the existing ones. On the Spanish Levant coast there is no lateral transition from continental alluvial formations to the marine deposits of former beaches. As soon as the continental formations are superimposed on the beaches at the maximum levels, they are gullied or truncated. If the « eustatic theory » is still valid for estuaries, is the case of piedmonts which reach the sea the morphogenetic evolution is inverse. The lowering of the base level causes silting up which helps to build up the continental levels. On the other hand, if the base level rises, as the cliff recedes a cutting down process begins and an abrasion platform is created in front of the cliff. These morphogenetic processes suggest that the regression and transgression shelfs are weaker than those of the coastal waters. They are stimulated when climatic conditions cause maximal deposits of detritus coinciding with a lowering of the base-level.Keywords
