Radioactive microspheres injected into the carotid artery of the anesthetized or unanesthetized rat are found in the infundibulum and posterior lobe but not in the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland. It is concluded that the anterior lobe of the living rat is perfused by none but portal systems.
