Abstract
An amorphous compound C16H18O8 was isolated from ethanolic HC1 extracts of the walnut by chromatography on alumina. Spectroscopic examination suggests that this existed as such in the original plant. On hydrolysis it yielded glucose and alpha-hydrojuglone. Further chemical and spectroscopic evidence suggests that this compound is the 5-glycoside of l,4,5-trihydroxynaphthalene.Keywords
