Abstract
A series of experiments in which a multimode optical fiber was forced to vibrate by a loudspeaker was performed to investigate the sensing mechanism of an integrated optical-fiber communication–sensing system. It was demonstrated that the sensing mechanism is predominantly pressure-induced phase modulation rather than mode-coupling-induced power transfer in an optical fiber.Keywords
