Abstract
Amplitude instabilities near the threshold of phase locking are investigated in a system of two coupled microchip lasers. The compact semimonolithic resonator set-up allows a systematic study of the relevant parameter regime, including the observation of synchronous amplitude oscillations and, for the first time in coupled solid-state lasers, localized synchronization. The measurements are compared with numerical simulations. Keywords
