Abstract
An 8-day method was used for screening compounds against infection with the Khartoum strain of Leishmania donovani. The infection was initiated by intravascular inoculation of parasites in ground spleen suspensions of heavily infected golden hamsters. Compounds to be tested were administered parenterally once daily for 6 consecutive days beginning 1 day after infection. The following compounds showed activity against the infection either in hamster, in mouse or in both: amphotericin B (Fungizone), fumagillin, nystatin, antimony dimercapto-succinate and xerosin. The activity of Fungizone is especially noteworthy. Keywords
