Abstract
The relative interfertility of the Mexican series Bulbocastana, Cariophylla, Pinnatisecta and Trifida of section Tuberarium of the genus Solanum was demonstrated by the production of experimental species hybrids. On the basis of this evidence the comparium concept is superimposed on present Solanum taxonomy. The South American series of Tuberosa, Commersoniana, Megistacroloba, Cuneolata, Piurana, Circaeifolia and Acaulia are grouped with the Mexican series Demissa and Longipedicellata in Comparium I. The Bulbocastana, Cardiophylla, Pinnatisecta, Trifida, and possibly the Polyadenia constitute Comparium II and the Morelliformia and Clara are placed in Comparium III and Comparium IV respectively. This publication has 9 references indexed in Scilit:
