Abstract
Yield losses caused by the white grub Ligyrus subtropicus Blatchley to a commercial sugarcane field planted with cultivar CP 65-357 were quantified. Mean numbers of grubs in areas of high and low infestations were 12.14 and 0.88/m of row, respectively. These population levels affected yields significantly, reducing tons of cane per ha and tons of sugar per ha by 28 and 39%, respectively. Surveys conducted with blacklight traps indicated that peak flight activity occurred in June, when 84.3% of the adults were caught.
