Resonant and average behavior of theC12+C12total reaction cross section:5.6Ec.m.10.0MeV

Abstract
The gamma-radiation yields from the C12+C12 interaction were measured in steps of 50 keV over the bombarding energy range 11.8Elab20 MeV in order to study the energy dependence of the total reaction cross section. Several new resonances, occurring at Ec.m.=6.49, 7.30, 7.45, 9.33, and 9.67 MeV, were identified in these yields. Carbon partial widths were determined for a number of resonances, and these widths demonstrate the quasimolecular nature of the corresponding structures. The average or background trend of the energy dependence of the reaction cross section was found to be adequately described by an incoming-waves boundary condition model, however, and no evidence was found in the energy-averaged yields for anomalous absorption in the C12+C12 system.
