Abstract
Compared random-bred mice exposed to an early enrichment experience with standard laboratory-reared controls. Behavior was measured in open field, running wheel, and food competition. Significant treatment effects were found on all measures, and the enrichment effects were pervasive and relatively permanent. Open-field defecation was negatively correlated with open-field activity, open-field activity was positively associated with running-wheel activity during this 1st 5400-sec period, and early running-wheel activity was positively associated with later running-wheel activity.
