Abstract
Histamine, amyl nitrite, 10% CO2 and nico-tinic acid were each repeatedly administered for 2 wks. to 7 patients with trigeminal neuralgia who had "trigger areas" of pain. These areas were stimulated during treatment. At least 1 of the 4 drugs in a few mins. decreased the intensity and duration of the pain in all patients. Placebos had no effect. The attacks appear to result from paroxysmal ischemia of trigeminal structures. This publication has 8 references indexed in Scilit:
