Abstract
The phase velocity and wave amplitude of ion waves launched by a small probe are investigated experimentally and theoretically for all directions in a weakly magnetized plasma. Ion waves in a weakly magnetized plasma are found to propagate omnidirectionally (excluding the effect of plasma flows) with respect to the phase velocity and to be launched bidirectionally along the direction of the magnetic field with respect to the amplitude. The excitation mechanism is also investigated in a fluid model in comparison with the results of a nonmagnetized plasma. Keywords
