Abstract
Effective dose per unit neutron fluence has been calculated by the FLUKA code for various geometrical conditions or irradiation of an anthropomorphic phantom placed in a vacuum. Calculations have been performed for monoenergetic neutrons of energy ranging from thermal to 10 TeV. The results have been compared with the data sets published by other authors which are, however, rather limited. In spite of some observed differences, the agreement with the published results can be judged generally satisfactory. A graphical presentation of organ doses is also given. On the basis of a comparison of the present results with the values of ambient dose equivalent calculated by other authors, this operational quantity was found not to provide a conservative estimate of the effective dose for neutron radiation at all energies of interest. Keywords
