Abstract
We study the double scaling limit of orthogonal polynomials arising in matrix models of 2D gravity. These “Baker-Akhiezer functions” satisfy linear differential equations whose compatibility conditions are the string and KP flow equations. Moreover, these functions may be interpreted as two-point functions for a 2D field theory on the eigenvalue plane.Keywords
