Abstract
The reaction of cellulose in buffered aqueous solutions of formaldehyde his been found to be governed by the pH, concentration, and temperature of the solution, and by the time of immersion; it is also affected by the type of cellulose and by certain added substances, e.g. potassium chloride, urea. The influence of the various factors has been studied and some properties of the products have been examined. A survey of the literature relating to the subject is included. An analysis of the rate curves is given in an appendix. Keywords
