Abstract
In this paper, we shall first report on a fractal structure observed in liquid crystals. For the spatial distribution of the focal conics in a ferroelectric SmC* phase, the fractal dimension is evaluated as ∼1.7 at room temperature. According to a simple statistical analysis, the interaction potential between two focal conics is expected to be inversely proportional to r 3; here r is the relative distance between two focal conics. Keywords
