Abstract
Idiopathic orthostatic hypotension is a syndrome for which no satisfactory treatment has been reported. Various drugs and physical means have been tried but have been either ineffective or poorly tolerated by the patient. This report describes a garment constructed for a patient who for eight years had been treated unsuccessfully with various forms of therapy. The garment proved both successful and practical and is commercially available. Report of a Case The patient, a 69-year-old Caucasian woman, was admitted to Michael Reese Hospital in September, 1962. She had had three previous admissions to the hospital because of postural hypotension. The onset of postural hypotension in 1955 was characterized by syncope, blurred vision, hypohidrosis, and intolerance of a warm environment. She had had thyrotoxicosis in 1934. Physical examination revealed a pale elderly white woman who did not appear ill. The skin showed a distinct pallor.
