Abstract
Techniques from the quantum theory of open systems (operations) are applied to the model of a kicked quantized cavity mode recently presented by Filipowicz, Javanainen, and Meystre [J. Opt. Soc. Am. B 3, 906 (1986)]. These techniques permit a straightforward discussion of atomic velocity profile in the model. Keywords
