Abstract
Presentation of CaseA 31-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of respiratory failure. He was well until three weeks previously, when he began to have abdominal pain. One week later fever, vomiting and a cough productive of blood-streaked, brownish sputum developed. He also complained of a sore throat and chest pain on deep breathing. Thirteen days before admission he entered another hospital because of fever, confusion, weakness and respiratory distress. An x-ray film of the chest revealed a homogeneous opacification of the left-lower-lung field. Proteinuria was found. Cultures of blood, sputum and urine yielded no pathogenic micro-organisms.
