Abstract
A theory is presented for the thermodynamic mixing properties of certain charge‐unsymmetrical fused salt mixtures of the type (P+—Qz+)X—. The analysis is based upon the work of Reiss, Katz, and Kleppa who showed that for charge‐symmetrical molten‐salt mixtures many of the thermodynamic properties of mixing could be understood in terms of a model ionic melt consisting of rigid impenetrable ions interacting with a Coulomb potential. The predicted form of the heat of mixing agrees with the experimental data of Kleppa et al. on the alkali‐nitrate—alkaline‐earth nitrate mixtures. Keywords
