Preferred Supportive Services for Middle to Higher Income Retirement Housing

Abstract
This research reports the service and facility feature preferences for retirement housing of a randomly selected sample of 221 middle and upper income elderly in a large southern city. Results show mandatory services and activities which require physical exertion were rejected, while security, convenient retail services, public transportation, and emergency health services are the most preferred. Research findings underscore the importance of a supportive local neighborhood and provide evidence of the preference for health maintenance services associated with housing.
