Abstract
In the development of their theory of fishing, Beverton and Holt assume that growth is isometric and thus express the body weight of a fish as directly proportional to the cube of its length. The effect on their theory of replacing this assumption with an allometric growth equation estimated from weight‐length data is examined in this paper. Numerical evaluation of the Beta‐integral that results from using allometric growth in the yield equation was carried out on a digital computer. Relative and absolute differences between the yield isopleths obtained using isometric growth and those obtained using allometric growth are examined for taxonomic groups with different characteristic growth patterns and longevities. Keywords
